Coptic Does Not Mean Egyptian
1 min read 93 words
The Copts is a name applied exclusively to Egypt’s Orthodox Christians, and the Coptic language is a dialect born from the womb of the Greek language.
Theodor Balsamon, an Orthodox Christian jurist and commentator on the canons of Christian councils (from the 12th century), states that Coptic is a corrupt and deviant Greek dialect.
This means that the Coptic language is Greek, not ancient Egyptian.

Muslims in Egypt are Egyptians, not Copts, and there is no honor in a Muslim Egyptian being called a Copt.
