He Told You the Truth, but He Is a Liar
The text of the hadith:
( The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, entrusted me with guarding the zakat of Ramadan. Then someone came to me and began to scoop up food. I took him and said: By Allah, I will take you to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: I am in need and I have children and I have a great need. He said: So I left him. In the morning, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: O Abu Hurairah, what did your prisoner do last night? He said: I said: O Messenger of Allah! He complained of a great need and children, so I took pity on him and let him go. He said: He lied to you and will return. I knew that he would return because the Messenger of Allah, may Allah
bless him and grant him peace, said: He will return. So I watched him and he came scooping up food, so I took him and said: I will take you to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: Leave me, for I am in need and I have children and I will not return. So I took pity on him and let him go. In the morning, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to me: O Abu Hurairah, what happened to your prisoner? I said: O Messenger of Allah! He complained of severe need and children, so I took pity on him and let him go. He said
: He lied to you and will return. So I watched him for the third time, and he came scooping up food. I seized him and said: I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). These are three times that you claim that you will not return and then you return. He said: Leave me and I will teach you words by which Allah will benefit you. I said: What are they? He said: When you go to bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi - Allah, there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining - until you finish the verse, for there will be a guardian from Allah over you, and no devil will come near you until morning.
