Lake Tiberias Drying Up.. BBC

Lake Tiberias The level of Lake Tiberias

has dropped by about four meters in the past ten years. After crossing the red line, the current level is not far from the black line. Reaching it means that marine and terrestrial life in the lake basin will be in danger.

This is how environmentalists describe the environmental problem in Lake Tiberias. They agree that studies indicate that the deterioration of the lake will continue.

I went to Lake Tiberias, which is located below the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and east of the Galilee plains. The beauty of the lake basin, the picturesque nature, and the hot and humid weather in the summer were clear characteristics of this lake.

I met with Pinhas Green, Director of the Water Directorate of Lake Tiberias, on one of the tourist beaches, and there is the gauge used to measure the water level of the lake.

Pinhas told me, “As you can see, this gauge indicates the sharp decline that has occurred in the lake, and we are monitoring the drop in the level via an electronic gauge. We have even placed other gauges there to measure the lowest level.”

What is striking is that they have placed new gauges to match the noticeable decline in the lake.

Israel relies on groundwater and Lake Tiberias as natural water sources, but Lake Tiberias has reached a dangerous stage, prompting environmentalists to issue warnings to rationalize consumption. The Israeli government

also broadcasts advertisements in the media calling on Israelis to economize on consumption, and has imposed fines on violators in an attempt to rationalize water consumption. The habit of washing cars with a water hose has become a violation punishable by law.

Politics is not enough to solve the water problem .

Israel occupied the eastern shore of the lake in the 1967 war, so much so that the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad insisted on Israel withdrawing from the entire shore. One of Assad’s close associates said that he used to say, “I used to swim in Lake Tiberias , so how can I give it up?”

Scientists say that a political settlement will not solve the problem because the countries overlooking the rivers that feed the lake, Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Jordan, all want water for drinking and agriculture. The drought problem in the region has prompted countries to use water on a daily basis instead of thinking about the future of the lake.

Pinhas, Director of the Water Directorate of the Sea of Galilee, explains the measures currently being taken to alleviate the crisis: “Five years of drought have put one of the most important water sources in Israel, Lake Galilee, in a real crisis. We are working to contain the crisis by maintaining the water level and not pumping large quantities into the Jordan River and the Dead Sea.”

Tiberias and the Jordan River

Tiberias and the Jordan River

To the south of Lake Galilee, the Jordan River flows out carrying water to the Jordan Valley and eventually flows into the Dead Sea. The reality is that due to the sharp drop in the level of LakeTiberias: The Israeli authorities use pumps to push water to flow through the Jordan River. If the lake level rises one day, these pumps will be useless because the water will flow because the lake level will be higher than the river.

Decades ago, the Jordan River carried water to irrigate agricultural areas east and west of the river. Now the river has become weak because the Israeli authorities reduce the amount of water flowing from Lake Tiberias through a small dam.

Palestinian farmers suffer from water scarcity.

The Jordan River extends to form the natural border between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the West Bank. Palestinian farmers are also affected by the water crisis, especially since Israel controls the groundwater and the Jordan River is a closed military zone that farmers cannot benefit from.

One of the largest towns in the Jordan Valley is Al-Auja, located north of the city of Jericho. There I met with Ibrahim Awad, a Palestinian farmer who buys water from Israeli companies that even control the water of Ein Al-Auja, which is 100 meters from Ibrahim’s land. He said, “The river water is forbidden to us, and we even buy the water from the spring from Israel, which usurps the water. In the summer, we suffer from severe water shortages, which leads to the destruction of agricultural crops.”

Jewish settlements in the West Bank exploit the largest amount of water in the West Bank according to the United Nations, leaving Palestinian farmers to suffer.

Agricultural lands, especially those planted with corn this summer, will not produce due to water scarcity, so farmers have fed them to livestock. The Palestinian farmer lost his crop because the land became fallow this year.

The water problem remains one of the most serious problems on a long-term strategic level, and its impact will be more evident on future generations.

Of course, I cannot forget to remind you of the hadith of the Antichrist about the drying up of the lake.

173889 - That he asked Fatimah bint Qays, the sister of Ad-Dahhak bin Qays. She was one of the first emigrants. He said: Tell me a hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). Do not attribute it to anyone other than him. She said: If you wish, I will. He said to her: Yes, tell me. She said: I married Ibn Al-Mughira. He was one of the best young men of Quraysh at that time. He was wounded at the beginning of jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). When I became a widow, Abdur-Rahman bin Awf proposed to me, along with a group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) proposed to me on behalf of his freed slave Usamah bin Zaid. I had been told that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever loves me, let him love Usamah.” When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) spoke to me, I said: My affair is in your hand. Marry me to whomever you wish

He said: “Go to Umm Sharik.” Umm Sharik was a wealthy woman from the Ansar who spent a great deal of money in the way of Allah. The guests come to her. I said: I will do it. He said: Do not do it. Umm Sharik is a woman who has many guests. I hate for your veil to fall off you, or for the garment to be uncovered from your legs, so that the people see some of what you dislike. But go to your cousin, Abdullah bin Amr bin Umm Maktum (a man from Banu Fihr, Fihr of Quraysh is from the same clan as her). So I went to him. When my waiting period was over, I heard the caller calling, the caller of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) calling: The congregational prayer. So I went out to the mosque and prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I was in the row of women that was behind the people. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished his prayer, he sat on the pulpit laughing. He said: “Let each person stay in his place of prayer.” Then he said: “Do you know why I have gathered you?” They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said, “By God! I did not gather you out of desire or fear. Rather, I gathered you because Tamim al-Dari was a Christian man. He came and pledged allegiance and became a Muslim. He told me a story that agreed with what I was telling you about the Antichrist. He told me that he boarded a ship with thirty men from Lakhm and Judham. The waves played with them for a month at sea

Then they were taken to an island in the sea until sunset. They sat in the closest part of the ship. They entered the island and were met by a hairy beast with much hair. They could not tell what was in front of it from what was behind it because of the amount of hair. They said, ‘Woe to you! What are you?’ It said, ‘I am al-Jassasah.’ They said, ‘And what is al-Jassasah?’ It said, ‘O people! Go to this man in the monastery, for he is eager to hear your news.’” He said, “When she named a man to us, we were afraid that she might be a devil. We set off quickly until we entered the monastery. There was in it a great human being.” We have never seen him created. And he was most tightly bound. His hands were bound to his neck, from his knees to his ankles, with iron. We said: Woe to you! Who are you? He said: You have been able to tell my story. So tell me who you are? They said: We are Arabs. We boarded a ship. We encountered the sea when it was rough. The waves played with us for a month. Then we reached your island. We sat in the nearest part. We entered the island. We were met by a hairy, hairy beast. You could not tell its front from its back because of its hair. We said: Woe to you! Who are you? It said: I am Al-Jassasah.

We said: What is Al-Jassasah? It said: Go to this man in the monastery. He longs for your news. We came to you quickly. We were frightened by it. We were not sure that it might be a devil. It said: Tell me about the palm trees of Baysan. We said: What do you want to know about it? He said: I ask you about its palm trees, do they bear fruit? We said: Yes. He said: It is likely that it will not bear fruit. He said: Tell me about Lake Tiberias. We said: What do you want to know about it? He said: Is there water in it? They said: It has a lot of water. He said:Its water is about to go away.He said: Tell me about Ain Zughar. They said: What do you want to know about it? He said: Is there water in the spring? Do its people farm with the water of the spring? We said: Yes. It has a lot of water, and its people farm with its water. He said: Tell me about the Prophet of the unlettered, what did he do? They said: He left Mecca and settled in Yathrib. He said: Will the Arabs fight him? We said: Yes. He said: How did he deal with them? We told him that he had defeated the Arabs who were next to him and they obeyed him. He said to them: Has that happened? We said: Yes. He said: It is better for them to obey him. I will tell you about myself. I am the Messiah

I am about to be given permission to go out. I will go out and travel the earth and I will not leave a village without descending into it in forty nights. Except Mecca and Medina. They are forbidden to me, both of them. Whenever I wanted to enter one of them, an angel would meet me with an unsheathed sword in his hand, preventing me from going out. And on every pass of it there are angels guarding it. She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, and he thrust his staff into the pulpit: “This is Taybah. This is Taybah. This is Taybah,” meaning Medina. “Did I not tell you that?” The people said: “Yes.” “For I liked the hadith of Tamim, as it agreed with what I was telling you about him and about Medina and Mecca. Behold, it is in the sea of Ash-Sham or the sea of Yemen. Rather, from the east, what is it? From the east, what is it? From the east, what is it?” And he pointed with his hand to the east. She said: So I memorized this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
