Science and Statistics Testify_ Hijab Respects Women

In an interesting experiment to discover the effect of women’s clothing on men, neuroscientists identified the areas of a man’s brain that are active when he sees women wearing revealing clothing. The experiment discovered that the activity of the male brain at that time matches its activity when seeing tools such as hammers and screwdrivers. The part responsible for contemplating the feelings of others was also completely inactive. In other words, their view of those women was - from a purely biological perspective and far from politics and slogans - a view of inanimate objects, not people .

This experience is very important and relevant to our contemporary society, where we have begun to notice many girls complaining about men considering them as mere “things” or “sweets” without appreciating their feelings and personalities, which leads to phenomena such as sexual harassment. As usual, the blame is placed on men who are accused of superficiality, animalism, and lack of self-control, etc., as if the ideal man is the man devoid of desire or who can endure endless provocation, and as if the girl who forgets to put on her clothes before leaving her house does not sexually harass men either .

But the truth remains that no matter how much some “civilized” men try to pretend otherwise, the natural instinct dictates that a woman who displays her charms and does not respect her humanity is viewed as a tool for pleasure only .

Here we recall statistics that prove that the rate of harassment of veiled women is about a third less than the rate of harassment of unveiled women, as 28% of those who are harassed in Egypt are unveiled, even though their percentage in society is only 20% .

Let us not discuss today the effect of revealing clothing on a man’s assessment of his wife’s beauty and consequently on the stability of homes, which makes this disease a curse on the entire society, its women before its men. Let us suffice with pointing out a recent study that confirmed that the high divorce rates in Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan were due to video clips and seductive stars .

After proving these previously known facts in a scientific and statistical manner, one of the strangest demands I have heard is the demands of members of feminist movements for women, explicitly or implicitly, to lighten their clothing, “a symbol of oppression,” while constantly complaining about men’s inferior views of them. What is the point of trying to improve the image of the politically “liberated” woman through propaganda campaigns, brainwashing methods, and the like, when the solution to force men to respect women’s humanity is much simpler and can be summed up in some covering cloth? The more covering, “a symbol of oppression,” the more respect there is, and the man’s view turns into a humane, understanding view, instead of a lustful, hungry view. This is what religions and laws have indicated over thousands of years by imposing modesty on women to preserve their dignity and humanity, and urging them to suppress their desire to attract attention, comments, and flirtations .

Here we stop at the way the figures from the aforementioned harassment study were formulated to indicate the futility of the veil, which is a simple example that reveals the true goals of the women’s movement. If it really aimed to prevent harassment, it would have advised girls to be modest in light of those statistics, not the opposite .

Do we benefit from the scientific discoveries that the foreigner himself brought us and the statistics that the feminist movements themselves brought us, or do we continue to pant after the failed Western social model, considering it an example of perfection and civilization without which nations cannot rise? ---- Hossam Harby
