3 min read 657 words

bn Rabiah, on the authority of Al-Araj, on the authority of Abu Hurairah,

may God be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: When you hear the crowing of a rooster, ask God for His bounty, for it has seen an angel. And when you hear the braying of a donkey, seek refuge in God from Satan, for it has seen a devil.

Hadith of Abu Hurairah.

His saying: ( If you hear the crowing of roosters )

with a kasra on

the silent letter and a fatha on the lower letter, the plural of rooster, which is a male chicken. The rooster has a special feature that no other has in knowing the time of the night, as it divides its sounds into equal parts that hardly differ, and it continues its crowing before and after dawn and hardly makes a mistake, whether the night is long or short. Hence, some Shafi’is issued a fatwa to rely on the experienced rooster in determining the time, and this is supported by the hadith that I will mention on the authority of Zaid bin Khalid.

  • His saying: ( For she saw an angel )
    with the opening
of the lam, Iyad said: The reason for that was hoping for the angels to confirm his supplication and their seeking forgiveness for him and their testifying to his sincerity, and from it is taken the desirability of supplication when the righteous are present to seek their blessing, and Ibn Hibban authenticated it - and Abu Dawud and Ahmad included it - from the hadith of Zaid bin Khalid, with a chain of transmission traceable to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace: ” Do not curse the rooster, for it calls to prayer .” And according to Al-Bazzar, from this chain of transmission, the reason for his saying that (may God bless him and grant him peace) is that a rooster crowed and a man cursed it, so he said that. Al-Hulaimi said: It is taken from it that everyone from whom good is gained should not be cursed or treated with contempt, rather he should be honored and treated well. He said: The meaning of his saying: ” For it calls to prayer ” does not mean that he actually says with his voice, “Pray” or “The time for prayer has come,” rather its meaning is that it is the custom that he cries at dawn and at noon, an instinct that God has created in him.

  • His saying: ( And when you hear the braying of donkeys ) An-Nasa’i and Al-Hakim
added And the barking of dogs . ” * His saying: ( For it has seen a devil ) At-Tabarani narrated he said: “A donkey does not bray until it sees a devil or a devil appears to it. When that happens, remember Allah and send blessings upon me .” ‘Iyadh said: The benefit of the command to seek refuge is that one fears the evil of the devil and the evil of his whispers, so one turns to Allah to repel that. Ad-Dawudi said: One learns five qualities from the rooster : a beautiful voice, standing up at dawn, jealousy, generosity, and frequent intercourse. And Allah knows best .

Glory be to God, the verse is completely reversed for the Jews and the Jesuits.

The donkey sees the angels.

Numbers 22:23 And the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand. So the donkey turned aside from the way and walked into the field. And Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back to the way.

While the rooster sees the devil, so that Jesus is frightened by his crowing.

26:75 Then Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said to him, Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times . And he went outside and wept bitterly.
