Musnad Ahmad 3601

on the authority of Abdullah who said: The Messenger of God said: “After me, men will come to rule over you who will extinguish the Sunnah, introduce innovations, and delay the prayer from its appointed times.” Ibn Masoud said: “O Messenger of God, what will I be like when I live to see them?” He said: “There is no obedience, O son of Umm Abd, to one who disobeys God.” He said it three times. I heard the same from Muhammad ibn al-Sabah.

First: The Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, addresses the Muslim Ummah and informs them of what will happen until the Day of Judgment, not because he knows the unseen, but because God has informed him of what Muslims need guidance in when it happens. He tells us that when this Ummah is ruled by unjust rulers who change the religion of God, then there is no obedience to any creature in disobedience to the Creator. Second: When the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, addresses his companions about a matter that will come after him, he addresses them as the Muslim Ummah, not as the companions. Therefore, he informs them that there will be innovations after him. The position of the companions is clear and specific in the statement of Abdullah ibn Masoud, may God be pleased with him: If I live to see them, how should I act? Here comes the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, confirming the superiority of the companions, for they know what to do. He says to him: Are you asking me, O son of Umm Abd, how should I act? You are one of the people of knowledge and understanding of Islam, and the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to address Ibn Masoud with this description out of kindness and mercy towards him. He called him his mother out of compassion for that learned scholar about whom the Prophet said: “A man who is a servant of God is heavier on the scale than Uhud.” Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, vol. 7, p. 521. Then he advised him that he would deal with these leaders as he would deal with others. If they ordered obedience, they would be answered, and if they ordered disobedience, they would be opposed. Third: What attack on the morals of the companions of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and may God be pleased with them, is what that forger has presented
