Sahih Al-Bukhari 1922 Chapter on Sales

On the authority of Jabir, he said: A caravan came while we were praying with the Prophet on Friday, and the people dispersed except for twelve men. Then this verse was revealed: “And when they see a trade or amusement, they disperse to it and leave you standing.”

First: The forger based his evidence on the hadith : “A caravan came while we were praying with the Prophet on Friday, and the people dispersed except for twelve men.” Then the verse was revealed : “And when they see a trade or amusement, they disperse to it and leave you standing. Say, ‘What is with Allah is better than amusement and trade. And Allah is the best of providers.’” (Al-Jumu’ah 11).

Second: Some of those who do not understand deal with the biography and the companions by judging people after the revelation of the legislation, and this is evidence of their frivolity of mind, completely ignoring that the Messenger was sent to an ignorant society to teach and raise them according to the method of heaven, whose verses were revealed to clarify and correct their actions, and confirm this by the connection of heaven to earth and its monitoring of the actions of the servants, which establishes in them the principle of God’s constant monitoring of all people.

Third: The companions knew that Friday prayer was obligatory and that the sermon was a Sunnah, whoever attended it was rewarded and whoever did not attend it was not sinful, so they left after completing the prayer, and the sermon at that time was after the prayer - like the Eid prayer - not before it as it is after that.

Fourth: When God directed them that this was not permissible, it was known that they rejected the matter or discussed it, but rather complied after that.

Fifth: The reality is that the city was going through very difficult circumstances at that time, with food and basic needs scarce for people, and Islam is a practical religion that encourages people to build, so when some of the companions learned that the caravan had arrived, they thought that they could leave after the prayer, so they left.

Sixth: The Friday sermon was not all that the companions received in terms of education, but rather it was not originally for education, but rather to discuss the conditions of Muslims on all levels, and people in every era are not all those who care about theorizing and setting state plans, so most people went about their work, and a number of them remained with the Prophet, who could be considered men of politics and theorizing in society, but Allah, who taught them that a Muslim cares about all aspects of life, directed them to the fact that their action was wrong.
