Fraud No. (22)_ O My Nephew, You Do Not Know What We Innovated After Him
Sahih Al-Bukhari 3852
On the authority of Al-Ala’ bin Al-Musayyab, on the authority of his father, who said: I met Al-Bara’ bin Azib and said: Blessed are you, you accompanied the Prophet and pledged allegiance to him under the tree. He said: O son of my brother, you do not know what we innovated after him.
First: We always emphasize that this nation is a nation of honesty and humility. It is not deceived by false praise or fleeting flattery. Rather, they know that the winner is the one who wins Paradise, and the one who loses it loses everything. The companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, are the best of this nation. They are humble and honest, and they know that they are not infallible. How many negligent people have thought they were saints, while they are worse in the sight of Allah, perhaps than Satan.
Second: If a person is small, he must be honest with himself and acknowledge his true size, saying that he is small. If he is large, he must remove the accusation of arrogance and pride from himself, saying that he is small. In both cases, he accuses himself of negligence.
Third: The man came to the companion and praised him and commended him, and the companion knows the danger of that on the heart of the one praising and the heart of the one being praised, because praise casts into the heart of the one praising sanctification of the one being praised or fanaticism for him or both, and perhaps the matter reaches the point of deifying people as fools of mankind have done, and casts into the heart of the one being praised arrogance and self-admiration and pride that Allah the Blessed and Most High hates, so the noble companion wanted to teach the man that they are human beings who make mistakes and are right, and that they have even changed from what their condition was during the time of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who used to take care of them and look after them and correct their intentions.
