Is Prophet Being _Ummi(A Person Who Can't Read nor Write) a Defect_(Quick Version
.
- One of the things that Christians think diminishes the status of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is their fault with the Prophet that he could neither read nor write!
As if this were a fault in the status of prophethood. The ignorant do not know that the teachings of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, revived nations, awakened peoples, led civilizations, and transformed peoples who lived on the margins of history into leaders and sultans of civilizations and nations
The description “illiterate” refers to someone who cannot read or write, and this is not something that the Messenger can be criticized for; rather, it is a confirmation and strong evidence that what was revealed to him from the Qur’an is a revelation that was revealed to him from God…
he did not read it in a book, nor did he transmit it from anyone, nor did he learn it from anyone else. Thus, the accusation is a testimony for him, not against him.
The Qur’an responded to this statement explicitly in its statement:
( And they say, “Legends of the ancients which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and evening.” Say, “It was revealed by He who knows the secret in the heavens and the earth. Indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful. ”) (Al-Furqan: 5-6)
It is enough
for the illiterate prophet who could neither read nor write that the book that was revealed to him would be a miracle for the polytheists of the Arabs, who were the people of eloquence and rhetoric; and even a challenge to them to produce something like it or even a surah like it.
This is enough evidence for him of the truth of his message and that what he brought - as some of their leaders said - “is not from the rhyme of soothsayers, nor from poetry, nor from the words of humans.”
-Henry de Castries says in his book / Islam, Thoughts and Thoughts, p. 39:
( Muhammad could neither read nor write, but was, as he described himself repeatedly, an illiterate prophet, a description that none of his contemporaries disputed…
It is proven from the above that Muhammad did not read a holy book and was not guided in his religion by a doctrine that preceded it .)

The illiteracy of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, through which he taught the Qur’an and guided people to the pure faith and the complete and just Sharia, was evidence that what he spoke was nothing but divine revelation in which no human being had any role at all.

Finally: Christians consider the “illiteracy” of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, a defect, while they believe that God’s prophets were ignorant!!
-
As in 1 Corinthians 1:27
“God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong” -
and they believe that Peter, the rock of the church, and John were “illiterate” and lacked knowledge; As in Acts 4:13
, “And when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, they perceived that they were uneducated and unlearned men . ”
…;
Rather, what is stranger than this is that they believe that their God was not educated; as in John 7:15,
” How can this man know letters, having never learned? ”
And confirming what is stated in the text, the monk Seraphim Al-Baramousi says in his book / Who are the Church Fathers, p. 46:
(Christ did not write, and his hands did not know paper and pen) .

If not learning to read and write is a defect in a human prophet, then it is more appropriate that it is a defect in an eternal God…
Isn’t that so
