The Art of Arabesque Is an Arab Art
The art of arabesque is an Arab art originating from Arab Palmyra
Joan Aruz says: The foliage patterns “arabesque” adorning the sculptures and buildings in the city of Palmyra resemble the patterns of local textiles. This is evidence of the authenticity of Palmyra’s architectural ornaments and that they reflect local artistic patterns
[ Palmyra Mirage in the Desert , Edited by Joan Aruz p69 ]
And we understand here that arabesque is an art known to the Arabs before the Prophetic mission
And Palmyra’s architecture is Arab architecture
2 - Jamal Al-Halabi said in The Armour of Light: Palmyra was a commercial Arab city that dominated desert trade and is a wonderful example of Hellenistic Arab architecture
[ THE ARMOUR OF LIGHT BY: JAMAL E. HALABI p62 ]
He indicates that Palmyra’s architecture is Arab, but its architecture was influenced by Hellenistic elements
3 - And Warwick Ball says in his book Rome in the East: It was often thought that the architecture in Palmyra was classical with Greek-Roman influence, and in fact, this was a mistake: for the symbols of Palmyrene architecture are deeply Semitic.
This means that Arab architecture is Semitic Arab and not stolen from the Romans, and that the art of arabesque is an ancient Arab art
