The Problem of the Letter Alif in Some Verses of the Qur’An
This is permissible among the Arabs. Its alifs are established in the pause and the Arabs do that.
An example of this is the saying of the poet:
“We have brought the caravans wounds ***** We mobilize the last ones and the first ones.
” The alif was given the status of a fatha – and it is obligatory to pause after it… because it occurs in pauses.
Abu Amr, Al-Jahdari, Ya’qub, and Hamzah read it without it in both connection and pause. They said: It is extra in writing, just as the alif was added in the Almighty’s saying: ” And they would have placed it among you , so write it like this.” And other than this.
As for adding the alif in poetry, it is a place of necessity, unlike the Qur’an, which is the most eloquent of languages, and there is no necessity in it. Ibn Al-Anbari said: “Whoever reads Al-Zunun, Al-Sabil, and Al-Rasul without an alif in the three letters and writes them in the Qur’an with an alif did not contradict the Mushaf, because the alif in “ata’ana” and the one that is included in the beginning of Al-Rasul, Al-Zunun, and Al-Saabil is sufficient from the final alif that is later, just as the alif of Abu Jaad was sufficient from the alif of Hawaz.
The alif was lowered to the position of the fatha and what is attached is a support for the movement that precedes and the intention in it falls. So when he worked on this, the alif with the fatha was like one thing, the pause requires them to fall, and he worked on the fact that the image of the alif in writing does not require a place in the pronunciation, and that it is like the alif in “Sihraan” and in “Fatir Al-Samawat.” And the earth and in our promise to Moses and what is similar to them of what is deleted from the script and is present in the pronunciation and is omitted from the script
and this writing is from the language of the Arabs. So it was written in the language of those who say I met the man and it was read in the language of those who say: I met the man without an alif. Ahmad bin Yahya informed us on the authority of a group of linguists that they narrated on the authority of the Arabs: The man stood with a waw and I passed by the two men with a ya in connection and stopping and I met the man with an alif in both cases. The poet said: I asked Umaira about her father during the army, the riders acknowledged him so he established the alif in the riders based on this language and another said: If the Gemini followed the Pleiades I suspected the suspicions of the family of Fatima and on this language Bani Nafi and others read and Ibn Kathir and Ibn Muhaisin and Al-Kisa’i by establishing it in stopping and deleting it in connecting. Ibn Al-Anbari said: And whoever connected without an alif and stopped with an alif, it is permissible to argue that the alif was needed when pausing in order to ensure the fatha remains and that the alif supports and strengthens it
