The response to the doubt: How does God create man and then marvel at his disbelief and say: {How ungrateful is man!}

Content of the Doubt

An atheist asks: How could God create man and then be amazed by his disbelief, as if God had not known that man would be like this? This atheist cited the following verse as evidence:

Man is destroyed! How ungrateful he is! [Abasa 17]

Response to this ridiculous suspicion:

Firstly:

The exclamation of wonder in the Arabic language does not always mean that the person expressing wonder is ignorant of the thing he is wondering about. Rather, the person expressing wonder may be surprised by something he already knows.

Let’s take an example:

You might sit and look at the stars and say, “How beautiful the stars are!”

Does this mean that you did not know the stars before?!

Answer: No, you already know the stars and have seen them over and over again.

And the Muslim says every day: [How many blessings God has bestowed upon us]

Does this mean that the Muslim did not know that before?!

Answer: No

The doctor says: [How complex the human body is]

Does this mean that the doctor did not know about this before?!

Answer: No

You may stand with yourself and talk to yourself and say: [How miserable my life is]

Does this mean you didn’t know that before?!

Answer: No

You might even make a complex robot and then talk about it and say, “How cool it is.”

Does this mean that you did not know that robots are made in this way?!

Answer: No

In conclusion, the style of exclamation does not negate the person’s prior knowledge of what he is astonished at. Rather, the person is often aware of and knowledgeable about the thing he is astonished at, and his knowledge of these things is what drives him to be astonished at it.

secondly:

The exclamatory phrase [How ungrateful I am] is an explanation of what preceded it, and therefore Ibn Ashur says the following in the book (Al-Tahrir wa Al-Tanwir):

The phrase “How ungrateful he is” is an explanation for the invocation against him .

Here I have completely refuted the doubt.
