Are Coronavirus Mutations Evidence of Evolution? 🧬🪫

The Darwinists claimed that mutations in this virus increased its transmissibility, in addition to its ability to jump from animals to humans. But before we respond to this, remember:

  • All the examples we’ve discussed about increased bacterial replication were due to gene deletions , which led to faster copying speed and thus greater spread — not new information.

  • The same applies to viruses; even if it’s proven that transmissibility has increased, it has nothing to do with evolution . What’s happening instead indicates a significant loss of genetic information .

Did These Mutations Actually Increase Transmissibility? 🧪🔍

To test whether the mutations observed in the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the cause of COVID-19) increased its transmissibility, researchers developed an evolutionary index to determine the relative number of descendants in sister branches — those with or without a single allele (one copy of a gene).

This index was applied to a carefully selected set of recurrent mutations , originally identified from data on 46,723 virus genomes isolated from patients worldwide.

The Result:

🔴 Not a single recurrent mutation was found to be associated with increased transmissibility .

🟡 In fact, both deleterious and neutral mutations were observed.

To understand what this means:

A virus that has no beneficial mutations, some neutral mutations (without any effect), and others deleterious, is clearly on the path to deterioration, not evolution.

These mutations were even the result of adaptation to the human immune system , primarily induced by host RNA editing — not signatures of long-term adaptation to the human host.

🛑 There is no evidence at this stage for the emergence of more transmissible lineages of SARS-CoV-2 due to recurrent mutations.

What About the Jump from Animal to Human? 🦥➡️🧑‍⚕️

Okay, what about the jump from animal to human?

In short: The virus has what are called antigens , found on the surface of viruses, that allow the virus to attach to receptors of the infected organism.

Now we have the COVID-19 virus that has jumped from mammal to mammal — meaning they have very similar receptors.

What happened is that viruses are naturally highly mutable. Their RNA allows for minor modifications in the antigens that bind the virus to receptor surfaces — making it able to bind to human receptors.

We have previously mentioned examples such as one of the models of bacteriophage modifications on the “J” protein , in order to bind again to the receptors of other bacteria.

All of these are just minor modifications already present within the same type .

Let’s take an example to understand:

🔑 You have a key that opens a specific door, but if you want it to open another door, you’ll have to modify it — for example, by removing a part or knocking out a part — all to fit the shape you want.

That’s exactly what happens with viral binding — not evolution , just modification within existing limits .
