Hadith Explanation Ifk
.

Response: This narration is weak, and I will clarify its defects:
Al-Imam al-Ṭabarānī said after reporting this narration:
“This ḥadīth was not narrated from Miqsam except by Khuṣayf, and only ʿAttāb ibn Bashīr reported it from him.”
- ʿAttāb ibn Bashīr
Al-Imam Ibn ʿAdī said:
“This ʿAttāb ibn Bashīr narrated a collection from Khuṣayf, and in that collection are ḥadīths and texts that were criticized. Among them is a narration from Khuṣayf, from Miqsam, 👉 regarding the ḥadīth of al-Ifk (the false accusation against ʿĀʾisha), in which he added phrases that no one narrated except ʿAttāb from Khuṣayf.”
[Al-Kāmil, 8/552–553]
Al-Jawzjānī reported from Aḥmad:
“The ḥadīths of ʿAttāb from Khuṣayf are denounced.”
[Tahdhīb al-Tahdhīb, 3/48]
Abū Ṭālib said:
“Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal was asked about ʿAttāb ibn Bashīr, and he said: ‘I hope there is nothing wrong with him. But he started narrating denounced ḥadīths later, and I believe the problem is from Khuṣayf.’”
[Tahdhīb al-Kamāl, 19/286]
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: Ibrāhīm ibn Yaʿqūb al-Jawzjānī wrote to me:
“I heard Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal say: ‘The ḥadīths of ʿAttāb from Khuṣayf are denounced.’”
[Al-Jarḥ wa al-Taʿdīl by Ibn Abī Ḥātim, 7/12]
- Khuṣayf being the sole narrator of this ḥadīth
Ibn Ḥibbān said in al-Majrūḥīn (7/350):
“He was abandoned by a group of our scholars, while others used him as evidence. Khuṣayf was a righteous, devout jurist, but he used to make many mistakes in his narrations. 👉 He would narrate alone from well-known figures things that no one else supported. He is truthful in narration, but fairness concerning him means accepting what aligns with trustworthy narrators and rejecting what is unsupported. 👉 Though he is among those included among the trustworthy, one should seek Allah’s guidance regarding him.”
Many other scholars have also weakened him. Ibn Ḥajar said: “He is truthful, but makes mistakes.”
- Miqsam did not hear from ʿĀʾisha
Al-Imam al-Bukhārī said:
“Adam narrated to us: Shuʿbah narrated from al-Ḥakam: I said to Miqsam: I perform Witr with three rakʿahs. He replied: Not unless it’s five or seven. I asked: From whom? He said: From a trustworthy person, from ʿĀʾisha and Maymūna, from the Prophet ﷺ. Sufyān narrated from Manṣūr from al-Ḥakam from Miqsam from Umm Salama from the Prophet ﷺ. 👉 But it is not known that Miqsam heard from Umm Salama, Maymūna, or ʿĀʾisha.”
[Al-Tārīkh al-Awsaṭ, 1/294]
Conclusion:
The narration is weak due to ʿAttāb being the sole narrator from Khuṣayf.
